Israeli model and actress Gal Gadot will be playing the iconic role of Wonder Woman in the 2015 upcoming Batman Vs. Superman film to be directed by Zack Snyder. She will star along side Henry Cavill, who will reprise his role as Superman and Ben Affleck who has been cast as Batman.

Gal, 28, has also appeared in three Fast and Furious films (4, 5 and 6) as well as in Date Night and Knight and Day.

Zack Snyder said that:

Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.

Wonder Woman, also Diana of Themyscira, is an Amazon princess with super powers including strength, speed, agility, stamina, flight and healing. Her weapons include the Lasson of Truth, the Tiara of telepathy, indestructible bracelets and a magical sword. Lynda Carter portrayed The character in the first live action television series which ran from 1975 to 1979. Subsequent revival of a television series for the character was unsuccessful.

It had been speculated earlier that along with Gadot, G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘s Elodie Yung and Bond girl Olga Kurylenko were being considered for the role.

There are also rumours that another DC Comics hero, Flash, will make an appearance in the film which is slated to release on July 17, 2015. The producers are also looking to cast the film’s villain. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2014 with Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne returning in their roles.

And the new Batman is here!

Will the latest Batman please stand up!

We have seen many avatars of Batman through the ages and the vigilantee crusader has been represented in media by notable faces such as Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney and more recently, Christian Bale in The Dark Knight trilogy. After The Dark Knight Rises, Bale hung up his batsuit and decided to move on to other projects!

However, at Comic-Con this July, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder unveiled plans for the sequel to the Summer hit and shocked audiences worldwide when the screen behind him popped up with the two symbols of Batman and Superman … together! The word went crazy at the thought of a Superman Vs Batman movie!

Warner Bros announced the plans for the sequel, that it would indeed feature the two superheroes and would be released in 2015, with production due to start in early 2014. Soon, rumours and speculation flew around as to who would play Batman in this new movie with a potential Justice League spin-off. Names were thrown around from Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) to Armie Hammer (who stars opposite Man of Steel‘s Henry Cavill in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) and back to Christian Bale who was rumoured to have been offered US$ 60 million to reprise his role.

All rumours were put to rest last night, as the latest Batman was announced, and fangirls and boys, it is … drumroll … Ben Affleck!

Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck’s last outing as a superhero, Marvel’s Daredevil, did not fare well … but here is hoping that his latest avatar as Batman will charm movie goers! He certainly has the brooding look and the chiselled jawline to play Batman, even though he wasn’t an obvious choice!

Can we handle this double dose of hotness on our screens? Just as a reminder – Superman (Henry Cavill) looks like this –

What do you guys think of Ben Affleck as Batman?

Stay tuned as the movie goes into production in early 2014 (soon after Superman himself, Henry Cavill, finishes filming The Man From U.N.C.L.E.). Superman Vs Batman is slated for release on July 17, 2015!
