The first trailer for The Maze Runner was finally released yesterday – and you guys it did NOT disappoint! Intense, epic, nerve-wrecking – these are some of the words used to describe the trailer that we saw! Don’t believe us? Check it out for yourself below.
An alarming number of you evidently soiled your nether regions in sundry ways upon viewing the #mazerunnertrailer. Our apologies.—
James Dashner (@jamesdashner) March 18, 2014
Check out our mini guide to The Maze Runner that we put together for you yesterday, and without further ado, below are our recorded fan reactions – if it was a video reaction – you would have just seen our faces with our eyes wide open and our jaws dropped – so, let’s be glad it’s not that! [Spoilers ahead for non-book readers – go read the book]
Some book quotes to start us off with!
“With another jolt, the room jerked upwards like an old lift in a mine shaft.”
The opening few seconds of the trailer are straight up intense – the sounds, the lighting, Thomas in anguish!
“A heavy grating sound revealed double sliding doors being forced open.”
Look … there is the Glade’s number 1 jerk looking down at the new greenie!
“After so long in darkness, the light stabbed his eyes; he looked away, covering his face with both hands.”
Okay, so Thomas may not be using both his hands here, but damn, he makes the whole “adjusting-back-to-the-light” look so damn sexy! Bonus points if you spotted that crate with the W.C.K.D. initials on them.
“Where am I? Thomas asked, surprised at hearing his voice for the first time in his salvageable memory.”
The only thing Thomas remembers upon arrival at the Glade, is his name … side note … Dylan you are HOT!
So … lets talk a bit about the Glade
“They stood in a vast courtyard several times the size of a football field, surrounded by four enormous walls made of grey stone and covered in spots with thick ivy. The walls had to be hundreds of feet high and formed a perfect square around them … “
There isn’t much denying it … the Glade looks EXACTLY like what we pictured it in our heads. If you want to just grasp the idea of how big the glade is … just check out the gif below, where Thomas looks around only to find himself surrounded by walls …
And lets talk about the titular Maze!!!
The maze is just SHUCKING AMAZING! It’s HUGE, SCARY and ENDLESS … just the way it’s supposed to be.
And to put it all in perspective – check out the complete 3D model of the maze that Minho is studying in the Map Room – oh these boys and their puzzles!
And where there is a maze – there will always be …
… the Grievers!!!
Oh boy … the grievers – these slimy, metallic, clicking little pests are dreaded beings for the grievers and even though we saw just a little of them … they sure seem scary!!!
So up until now … it’s pretty much a testosterone show going on in the Glade, the standard ‘who has the bigger – uhm – nerves of steel, to go running in the maze’ kind of stuff …
Oops … sorry, wrong image … keep scrolling!
“It’s a girl.”
Yes folks, a girl (Teresa) comes to Gladeville and very seductively says “Thomas” in front of all the boys …
… And all the other gladers look up at him … probably to say “Yo bro, she wants you!”
But humour aside, here is when all the klunk starts to go down, but lets put that thought aside for a bit.
Lets focus on the running!
Seriously … all the running in the trailer, especially with that music in the background, just makes things so intense and ups the ante …
Run … Thomas … Run … Minho … Run … Everyone … Run!
Seriously though, running not only builds physique but also anticipation and where there is running …
… there is also … cliff hanging?
But seriously, the still of the runners passing the walls (left), looks so similar to the runner passing the walls on the book cover (right). Great job creative team – it’s not easy bringing a book to life, especially with such precision.
Apart from being dystopian, The Maze Runner also has a science fiction element to it and this is well illustrated in the trailer – the weird cannister covered in goo, the scanner in the maze, Gally inside a water tank – perhaps a memory from when he went through The Changing!
So we’ve seen some intense running and mystery sci-fi stuff – but nothing gets more thrilling than the following –
We all know what the boys are looking out at … but no one … no one is prepared for what happens next
OH MY GAWDDDDDD!! SERIOUSLY THOMAS? SERIOUSLY?
Although, you must admit … that was wicked … and wicked is good!
Check out some of the familiar faces we saw in the trailer …
Aww little Chuckie … you’ll have to wait until the next trailer to make us go “awwwwww”!
So yeah .. that wraps up our reactions to the trailer … tell you a secret … we are still not over it and are watching it again and again! Also, I just cannot get enough of that the ending … lets take a look again at impulsive and adventurous Thomas …
Seriously though … claustrophobic attack coming on …
Looks like its going to be a while until another trailer hits the web … in the meantime, go watch this one again and again and reread the books as we wait until the September 19th release date! Only six more months to go guys … yikes – hang in there Gladers … wicked is going to come and we all know wicked is always GOOD!
What did you think of the trailer?
The third month of the year is upon us, we are out of the winter slump and headed for a spring of BIG and EXCITING movies. Check out the films in theatres this month.
While technically released on the last day of February, this film still makes the cut because it’s playing in theatres during the first week of March. Plus, action-thriller-mystery mid-flight on an airplane, I’m all up for it. The film stars Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore and Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) and the synopsis reads as follows –
An air marshal springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages that put his fellow passengers at risk unless the airline transfers $150 million into an off-shore account.
Check out the trailer below, which also reminds us of a certain Jodie Foster film, Flightplan, but nonetheless looks exciting and full of action.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiHDJ19A3dk]
2. 300: Rise of An Empire
The much awaited sequel to 2006’s blockbuster 300 releases on March 7, 2014, with Lena Headey and Rodrigo Santoro reprising their roles as Queen Gorgo and Xerxes respectively while adding Eva Green, Jack O’Connell and Sullivan Stapleton to the rosters. The film’s synopsis reads –
Greek general Themistokles leads the charge against invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.
Check out the trailer below, which is reminiscent of the action and cinematography that made it’s predecessor a hit.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3Rzy7YqUVU]
3. Need for Speed
Remember when we posted about the first trailer for this film back in Septembe – yes, we are THAT excited for this film adaptation of the popular video game series. The film releases on March 14, 2014 and stars Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots and Michael Keaton. The film’s synopsis reads as follows –
Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.
Check out the trailer below, filled with high speed car chases and action sequences and the film will hopefully go on to become a successful franchise.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e73J71RZRn8]
We’ve been covering the upcoming film adaptation for the last few months and the release is finally upon us! Out on March 21, 2014, the film stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James in leading roles as well as Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Zoe Kravitz in supporting roles. The film’s synopsis reads as follows –
In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she’s Divergent and won’t fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it’s too late.
Check out the trailer below, which mirrors the book VERY closely, a recipe for any book-to-film adaptation’s success. In fact, the studio is so sure about the success of the film, that they’ve set release dates for the sequels Insurgent (March 20, 2015) and Allegiant (March 18, 2016) and has hired Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman to work on a previously drafted version of the script for the sequel.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw7Eln_xuWc]
This take on the Biblical prophet, Noah, releases on March 28, 2014 and stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Hopkins along with young and rising stars (and certain to attract younger audiences) Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth. The synopsis for the film reads –
The Biblical Noah suffers visions of an apocalyptic deluge and takes measures to protect his family from the coming flood.
The film has faced some controversy due to religious groups resulting in the producers adding an “explanatory note” stating that artistic license was taken in the making of the film. The trailer, however, promises a mixture of epic, period film with disaster movie thrown together and at the very least, offers a few hours of entertainment. Check out the trailer below –[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qmj5mhDwJQ]
6. The Raid 2
The sequel to the hit 2011 Indonesian action movie The Raid: Redemption, the film has Iko Uwais returning as Rama on March 28, 2014 in a limited release in North America. Originally titled “The Raid 2: Berandal”, the synopsis of the film reads as –
Only a short time after the first raid, Rama goes undercover with the thugs of Jakarta and plans to bring down the syndicate and uncover the corruption within his police force
Check out the action packed trailer below that promises more punches, gunshots and blood spilling, and if you haven’t watched the first film yet, watch it NOW – you won’t be disappointed.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG9uFX3uYq4]
Which films are you excited to watch in March?
Following the death of Paul Walker in November last year, production on Fast and Furious 7 stopped for a few months and the release date was pushed to April 10, 2015. It has been announced that Walker’s character Brian O’Connor, will be retired in the film series and that Walker’s brother, Cody Walker will step in for a few scenes as a stand in. The film also stars Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson and Jason Statham among others. The poster for the film was released a few days ago, and is shown below –
Side Note: They were showing The Fast and The Furious (first released in 2001) on TV the other day and my heart broke all over again, RIP Paul.
What do you think of the poster?
Us fangirls love events like this, but they sure can be stressful!
So, we’re down to our final four now, and it won’t be long before we’ll know this years’ most anticipated film.
In this clash of the fandoms, we’d thought we’d give you the break-down of what are sure to be the hottest movies of 2014.
This YA adaptation goes head-to-head with fellow YA franchise, Vampire Academy. Divergent tells the story of Tris, who lives in dystopian Chicago, where residents are sorted into 5 factions according to certain personality traits. But come aptitude test day, Tris is told she doesn’t belong to a single faction, making her ‘divergent’ and a threat. A threat to the perfect system. It stars familiar faces like Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet and Maggie Q.
Based on the hugely popular book series, this movie tells the story of Rose Hathaway, a dhampir (half-human, half-vampire) who is training to protect her best friend, a Moroi princess: Lissa Dragomir. Dhampirs train to become ‘guardians’ to the Moroi – benevolent, magic-using, alive vampires – from the Strigoi, the undead, evil vampires. But there’s a lot more to this friendship and this story than it seems. Starring Zoey Deutch, and TV faves, Sarah Hyland and Cameron Monaghan, it’s the one to look out for.
This highly anticipated movie continues the TV series, and goes up against The Maze Runner in this epic semi-final battle. It stars Kristen Bell as Veronica, 9 years later, and now living in the Big Apple. But as she’s drawn back to her home town to solve a murder, her old sleuthing ways re-surface.
The Maze Runner
It seems 2014 is the year of YA-book adaptations as this one hits theatres later on in the year. Based on the novel by James Dashner and starring Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien, it’s sure to be a hit. This one follows Thomas, a boy who wakes up in a box in the middle of nowhere… a village called The Glade surrounded by a massive stone maze. He becomes a runner, to help figure out the maze, and a way to get out, but the question is… Who put them there in the first place?
Who do you want to see win?
We all know the popular meme “That Awkward Moment When …” and now we are getting a comedy starring Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan as three best friends Jason, Daniel and Mikey, respectively, who find themselves at that confusing moment in every dating relationship when you have to decide “So…where is this going?”. Check out the International trailer below!
These three best friends are going to navigate some murky relationship waters!
Girl: “So I’m breaking up with you … I need somebody who doesn’t drink coffee out of a cereal bowl.”
Because Peanut Butter and Chocolate ice cream is the cure for all relationship problems!
Mikey (Michael): “I need it … my girl broke up with me.”
Jason (Zac): “What are you, Bridget Jones?”
Daniel (Miles): “No one gets ice cream … we are going out!”
Jason assures Mikey: “If you are single, we’ll stay single with you man!”
Uh Oh … be careful about promises you make boys!
Daniel: “We have four hours to drink like Keith Richards and still get funky!”
Mikey: “So … is this the part where we go home? Cos I’m .. not really …”
Girl: “You’re sitting on my coat!”
But of course … they all find love somewhere!
Even if some of them aren’t ready to admit it!
Daniel: “It doesn’t mean what you think it means!”
Jason: “It doesn’t?”
Chelsea: “Oh what does our relationship mean to you?”
Mikey: “I’ve been trying to pretend that things haven’t changed!”
Daniel: “Hey come here man …”
Mikey: “Do not hug me with no pants on!”
Hang in there Mikey … something tells me, you’ll find love too!
Daniel to Jason about Chelsea: “I love the way she laughs. I love the way we fit together in bed because we are the same height, our crotches line up.”
Umm … okay … whatever floats your boat Daniel! 😉
Hopefully, the film won’t be one big awkward moment!
Check out this featurette with the cast –
While the film seems to be one of those formulaic comedies where the boys promise they won’t get into relationships and then … BAM they fall in love, it stars some really BIG up and comers like Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now, the upcoming Divergent) and Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station and rumoured to be Johnny Storm in The Fantastic Four reboot) along with old favourite Zac Efron who is now reinventing himself with R-rated comedies such as this film and the upcoming “Neighbors” with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne.
The film has been written and directed by new comer Tom Gormican and is out in theatres on January 29 (UK), January 31 (USA) and February 31 in Australia where it is known as “Are We Officially Dating?” … strange! The film co-stars Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, the upcoming Need For Speed), Mackenzie Davis (Smashed) and Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield, the upcoming Pompeii) and is rated R!
Will you be watching “That Awkward Moment?”
Disney’s Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie is set to hit theatres this Summer on May 30. The film is a retelling of the classic 1959 tale, Sleeping Beauty and also stars Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora and Brenton Thwaites as Prince Phillip. A teaser trailer was released a few months ago and featured astonishing sets reminiscent of magical kingdoms and epic medieval tales. Check out the teaser below –
Some great visuals building the medieval and enchanted world.
And some great make up and costuming brings alive the villain from our childhood nightmares!
A sneak peek trailer was also shown on the Disney channel recently and features more scenes, including comparative scenes from the 1959 animated version. Check the new trailer below –
The trailer starts off with a comparison of the animated version and the live version.
Yay! Flora, Fauna and Merryweather … our favourite faires!
They definitely look cute, but the special effect also kind of looks unfinished …
Look who decided to crash the party …
In a scene reminiscent with the animated version … Maleficent puts a curse on the young princess.
Leaving King Stefan worried for the safety of his daughter!
We all know what happens next … the Princess grows up …
She dances in the forest with the woodland creatures …
Meets and falls in love with the Prince …
Pricks her finger on the needle …
and falls into a deep slumber …
Awakening only after Phillip defeats Maleficent and kisses her.
However, as always, there seems to be a twist, judging from these scenes where Maleficent and Aurora seem to cross paths.
And Maleficent takes the time to warn (or perhaps scare) Aurora about the dangers lurking in the forest.
Sure, Maleficent will still be evil and raise thorns …
And there will be epic battles (although I don’t remember any in the animated version – at least not on this scale)
But this time, we will see her back story and try to understand the reasons behind Maleficent’s nature.
The film stars Angelina Jolie and her cheekbones!
And is out on May 30, 2014.
Indeed, the film is a different take on the fairy tale. The synopsis of the film reads as below –
A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
The film is directed by Robert Stromberg, who is known for his visual effects, but this is his first time in the director’s chair.
Are you excited for Maleficent?
The official trailer for the much awaited Godzilla reboot is finally here and it looks BEYOND EPIC!
The official synopsis (from Legendary Pictures) of the film reads as follows –
An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.
The soldiers prepare for the unknown and he nails it with that look in his eyes!
Because parachutes are so last decade!
The halo jump definitely looks amazing!
And so the mighty fall, as they descend into absolute chaos …
… and total destruction!
And the jumpers spot the deadly cause of the destruction!
Scenes of chaos …
Evidence of a monster walking around?
The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson
and Elizabeth Olsen …
and of course, Godzilla!
The film is due to release on May 16, 2014 and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe and Juliette Binoche among others. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards and produced by Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures.
I remember reading a harrowing story of the ancient city of Pompeii for an English Literature class way back in middle school. The city is now going to be immortalized (and then destroyed with lava) on the silver screen with eye-candy Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) playing the lead. The synopsis of the film reads as follows:
Set in 79 A.D., Pompeii tells the story of Milo (Kit Harington), a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Cassia (Emily Browning), the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts, Milo must fight his way out of the arena in order to save his beloved as the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles around him.
A few months ago, we were teased with a footage of Kit Harrington walking amidst smoke and ashes and today, the full theatrical trailer is available for our viewing pleasure, below:
And as always, our reactions follow:
Our first glimpse of the ominous Mt. Vesuvius, waiting, silently, patiently, in the background, like a predator.
The prey in this scenario – the prosperous city of Pompeii.
Shots of Pompeii to establish how it was the jewel of the empire.
The gladiators are IN DA HOUSE!
Uhm … okay, can Jon Snow please come down to Southern Westeros next season. Just saying, because he’s always so bundled up in the North!
Let the games begin … in the rain, for dramatic effect!
But not all is well in Pompeii, not when those pesky Roman senators come marching in!
AND HOLY COW IT’S CAPTAIN RENARD FROM GRIMM!!
I have just exploded from feels, you guys!
So yeah, corruption and injustice are just in the air in Pompeii!
But so is love …
as well as friendship (s/n – Kit should stay semi-nude throughout the film)
But alas my friend, love and friendship aren’t enough to appease the gods, Vesuvius is getting angry!
And the skies get dark as though it was night!
Some cool pyrotechnics, you guys, Vesuvius is trying to compete with New Year’s Eve fireworks!
Smoke and ash fill the sky …
Cities fall …
and the oceans (technically, the sea) rise …
It’s all going down in 3D you guys … an epic, period, disaster film, coming in February!
The film also stars Jared Harris as Lucretius, Jessica Lucas as Ariadne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Bridgageous, Carrie-Anne Moss as Cassia’s mother, Paz Vega as Flavia, Joe Pingue as Graecus and Sasha Roiz as Proculus. The film has been directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, known for the Resident Evil series.
The story looks epic, the action looks good and the special effects look spine-chilling! Plus, the chance to see Kit Harington’s lovely abs *sigh* … I know I will definitely be lining up for this film!
Are you excited for Pompeii?
So, we’re into Fall now, but there’s still plenty of incredible films that will be hitting our cinema screens before the year ends! And here are the ones we’re especially excited for.
Divergent and TFiOS’s Ansel Elgort, and Kick Ass’ Chloe Grace Moretz star in this remake of the 1976 horror of the same name. Based on the novel, expect lots of gore and well, psychological powers.

Which ones will you be seeing?
“I feel the need … the need for speed!”
Granted that the above line was spoken by Tom Cruise’s character, Maverick, in the 1986 classic Top Gun, it still feels appropriate to use it to describe the EPIC new trailer for 2014’s Need for Speed, which has just arrived!
Need for Speed stars Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Imogen Poots (Fright Night), Dominic Cooper (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) along with Michael Keaton (1989 Batman) among others (50 Shades of Grey‘s Dakota Johnson is also credited) and is based on the popular “Need for Speed” racing video game franchise published by Electronic Arts.
The film’s synopsis on IMDB reads as follows,
Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.
The film is directed by Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) and is due for release on March 14, 2014. Check out some stills from the trailer below.
